Reflection: The Royal Golf Club needs to slow down the irrigation of the plants on their course. If they don't they risk the chance of contaminants and other things getting into their aquifer. Also their greens won't be as sturdy, because the soil will become loose and the golfers won't be able to dig their spikes in. I'm a little shocked thata as the price of water rises, they continue to use the same amount of water even though they don't need to. Over irrigating plants is bad for the health of the plants, they will be so overwatered that their roots will in a sense drown.
Questions:
Why do you think The Royal Golf Club irrigates their plants so much?
If they contaminate the aquifers, where will they get drinking water?
Should they think of cutting back and risk their lawns not being so lusciously green?

Reflection: This article was really interesting to read. If the aquifers get contaminated, then it will have a huge effect on our water supply sources. This situation kind of reminds me of the article that I posted, people keep wasting valuable water whether its for drinking purposes or irrigating purposes. I find it very shocking that these people just continue to waste water and not take into consideration what the consequences will be in the future.
ReplyDelete1. Personally, I think they are just irrigating them so much to look nice.
2. I think thats the biggest problem. There are such limited sources to collect fresh water from. If the aquifers get contaminated, it will have a huge effect on our water supply.
3. Yes, they definitely should. The owners of the gulf course can find other ways to make their course look pretty without contaminating the aquifers.

^This article just shows another example of careless people wasting water.
Reflection : This was very interesting. I am shocked that the golf course owners would even use that much water. Doesn't it cost them money? I understand it helps the soil but if you damage the aquifer then everyone will suffer. This is just negligent people being self centered and arrogant. They should know what they are doing to the environment not just their course.
ReplyDelete1. I think they are doing it to make it look nice. The nicer it looks the more people come and play. Who wants to go anywhere that looks like a dump?
This is very surprising! I understand that they want their golf course to look nice so people play there and spend money, but the amount of water they are using is way too much.
ReplyDelete1)I think they irrigate their plants so much to make their course look nicer, to get more customers.
2)They might have a scarce number of places to get it from, which could be a very big issue.
3)Yes, their gold course will most likely not change too much in appearance if they cut back
I think this is unbelievable. After how much global warming and "being green" has been covered in the past few years you think people would be more aware of their environment. I don't see why the golf course needs to have 83% more water than needed it's insane. The owners of the course need to think about more than just having the nicest green in the world. They need to consider the damage they are doing to their source of drinking water. Some people in America are either too ignorant or stupid or selfish to realize how amazing America is. The owners need to rethink how much they irrigate and do it so that they don't endanger their aquifers.
ReplyDeleteQuestions:
1)As aforementioned they care about how the green looks
2) They will probably have to use the available surface water and if there isn't any, they will have to switch over to bottled water. Which is bad for the environment, but it would be their only option if there isn't a lot of available surface water in the area.
3)Yes, better to have clean water and a drier course than no water and a most likely dead course because the water isn't clean.
