Summary: Round up ready GMO crops contain an organism in them that is known to cause miscarriges in animals. This organism can reproduce and cause diseases in plants and animals. Scientists say that a moratorium should be put on the sale and planting of round up ready crops. They say that if this is causing disease and miscarriges in animals then we can only imagine what it must be doing to us.
Reflection: This is crazy. How can they allow something that could cause disease and miscarriges to be sold. People need to stop buying these and stop eating them. If we boycott them then they will stop selling them. I know from one of my family members that miscarriges are hard to deal with. If they keep happening many families will be hurt and sad. i do not want to see that happen.
Questions:
1. How do you feel about GMO crops?
2. How do you think you would feel if you or your wife was pregnant and had a miscarrige?
3. How do you think this crop has affected humans so far?

This article is extremely shocking! Before I wasn't really bothered by the use of GMO's, but since it was discovered that it can harm animals and people, I'm really against them now. If the GMO are causing cows to have miscarriages, I can't even imagine what effect it will have on the cow consumers. GMOs really need to be labeled on products so consumers can be aware of what they are eating and have the choice to eat something that could make them sick.

This just shows how much GMOs can effect us humans.
2. Having a miscarriage is extremely upsetting to humans, so it shouldn't be okay for animals to have them. This situation could be prevented if we stop using, or at least cut back on GMOs.
Honestly, I've heard this before and I always thought it was a little bit of a stupid idea. Sure humans can have miscarriages but that doesn't mean it’s caused by us eating plants that have been genetically modified. I respect that some people think this may be a reason for miscarriage, but I don't agree. As I said before we do all these things to animals and people assume because it happened to the animals, something bad will happen to them. It’s bad that animals are having miscarriages and getting diseases. They should stop genetically modifying the plants with this specific hormone, but that doesn't mean humans are going to start having more miscarriages. There should be more research into this hormone, but no one should freak out and think that these plants will cause a lot of miscarriages.

2. Having a miscarriage is really sad and depressing. Obviously the animals must have some feeling of loss. I don't think the crops should be modified anymore becuase while they may not cause human miscarriages it may still damage human systems in some way.
Oh my gosh! Phil you are so right, they should stop selling round up crops. I've never experienced it myself, but I'm sure dealing with a miscarriage in the family is not easy. Why is it that they are continuing to pass GMO's that are obviously not safe for animals or humans?
ReplyDelete2. If I was pregnant and had a miscarriage, I would be devastated. Losing a child is sooooooo hard, I know, because I've seen what it can do to a family, my brother died in a car crash, and my dad is so afraid to lose me just from that experience. So to lose a child before you even get to meet it must be so hard to do.
